EXCERPT

His body tenses and I know this still isn’t the time to discuss Ben, but it is the right time to tell him how I feel. I run my fingertips along his cheek, silently apologizing for slapping him before saying it. “I really am so sorry.” I hope he knows I mean it for more than just the slap. Leaning into him, I take his other hand and bring both to my mouth as I tell him what I’ve wanted him to know since I drove away this morning. “River, I love you, Ben being alive doesn’t change that. You know that—right?”

Exhaling, he grabs my face and looks directly into my eyes. Despite his drunken state, his eyes seem more focused and his words are clear. “I want to believe your love is only for me. That your lips are mine. That your kisses are meant for me. That your body belongs to me.” His arms move to my waist and tighten around me and he presses his hard body against mine. “But when you leave me to see him, it’s hard to know for sure.”

REVIEW BY STEPH

Torn is the second book in the Connections series. After the cliffy we were left with in Connected I have been extremely anxious for Torn!  Kim Karr weaves you through intense love and strong relationships teetering on the brink of shattering.

I love the banter and silly little bets Dahlia and River throw at each other. Their love for one another is intense and sensual. At times you feel as though they are the couple who have been together their entire lives.

“From the day I met you my life changed...the way you make me feel can’t be put into words. You make me smile in a special kind of way…you brighten my world...you make me fall more in love with your every day."

It was so invigorating to see how much Dahlia grew in this book. For someone who has been dealt great losses throughout her life she proved to be a resilient and strong young woman.

I look up to the same altar I have looked on many times before. But this time, as the stained glass window reflects on the statue at the altar, I don’t have to wish for it to bring my peace because I am at peace.

As Dahlia’s past returns we are pulled into a extremely emotional roller coaster.  River is just as lovable although we do see the stress and angst of the situation start to take a toll on him.  River is hiding things from Dahlia and although they are not his secrets to hide, the pure deception could be enough to tear them apart.

...the truth is not always black and white. Sometimes it’s best to stay in the gray so you don’t hurt the people you love.

With the almost love triangle created at the end of Connected I was truly apprehensive to read Torn. I LOVE River and Dahlia BUT who can not deny the life that Ben and Dahlia built. I am grateful that Kim doesn’t totally rip our heart out in Torn. Don’t get me wrong there are twist and turns that will take your breath away but in the end….. your heart will be happy as you embrace the love and strong bonds formed in this fantastic book!

This is an amazing 4.75 read!

AUTHOR BIO

I live in Florida with my husband and four kids. I’ve always had a love for reading books and writing. In college I majored in English and wanted to teach at the college level, but that was not to be. I went on to get my MBA and became a project manager until quitting to raise my family. I currently work part-time with my husband and recently decided to embrace one of my biggest passions - writing.

I wear a lot of hats! Writer, book-lover, wife, soccer mom, taxi driver, and just the all around go-to person of the family. However, I always find time to read. One of my favorite family outing when my kids were little was to take them to the bookstore or the library. Today my oldest child is seventeen and no longer comes with me on these now rare and infrequent outings, but honestly I don’t need to go on them anymore because I have the greatest device ever invented, a kindle.

I believe in soulmates, kindred spirits, and Happily-Ever-Afters. I have many favorite things ranging from books – to movies – to words. I love to drink champagne and listen to music. I hope to always stay young at heart.

Connected is my debut novel and will be available at Amazon, B&N, iBooks, & Smashwords on March 22nd, 2013.
